Uusually I write about upcoming games and previews in this space. Today, I’m going to take a minute and honor the passing of a well designed, innovative game of starship combat. Take minute to honor the passing of Battlestar Galactica Starship Battles.
Ares Games announced that negotiations to extend the license for Battlestar Galactica Starship battles have failed. Consequently, Ares Games will lose the license on December 31st, 2020.
With the lose of the license, Ares Games has canceled any further model development and will release no new models. The previously announced expansions Faster Than Light and Additional Counter Set will be released as free PDF downloads early in 2021. Sales of existing stock are allowed to continue until June 30th, 2021.
Battlestar Galactica Starship Battles launched in December 2018. The game featured simple, yet innovative, mechanics to decouple facing and movement. Over the short lifespan, garnered multiple awards including UK Games Expo best miniatures rules and best miniatures line in 2019.
